Intra-articular Injection of Autologous Adipose-Derived Stem Cells
It is meant for patients with knee OA, intra-articular injection of autologous ASCs or ADSVFs without adjuvant treatment, this procedure showed remarkable clinical efficacy and safety at short-term follow-up. Some degree of efficacy has been shown for cartilage regeneration in knee OA.

Safety of an allogeneic, human, umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells [...] for cartilage repair in the knee
The study showed that the composite was safe and well tolerated in these patients. Exploratory efficacy outcomes showed statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in knee pain and function, while MRI demonstrated defect healing. More specifically, PDFS MR sequence images at 24 months showed cartilage restoration.

I’m Dr Gustavo Álvarez, founder and currently director of innovation and new technologies of the Clínica de Artrosis in Medellín / Colombia, I am part of the scientific and technical team of the cells life laboratory, which is a laboratory with high standards of quality and technology in Colombia for the management of cellular therapies. Furthermore, I am currently the director of the fellowship of arthroscopy surgery and biological therapies at the Universidad de Antioquia.
My medical training consists of a completed degree in Orthopedic Surgeon from the National University of Colombia and followed by experience in Spain where I obtained the title of Arthroscopist Surgeon from the University of Barcelona. I have also received advanced training at the García Cugat Foundation, which is an ISAKOS TRAINING CENTER in biological therapies.
In Colombia, I am the person with the highest number of cases treated with mesenchymal stem cells in the area of orthopedics, and also a member of different scientific societies such as the Colombian Orthopedic Society.

Do stem cells work for arthrosis cases?
R: Definitely, every time there is more and more evidence in the literature showing the clinical and structural improvement of the joints. (Artículos científicos disponibles)
What are the risks?
R: Based on Dr. Centeno’s article published in a multicenter study, a recurrent risk of joint inflammation was found in thousands of patients, which is a temporary effect and a necessary and normal regeneration process. Additionally, we offer advanced therapies to control the inflammatory process and improve stem cell activation.
How many doses do I need?
R: Based on our protocol, we use a high cell dose (100 million cells) in one application. We base this high dose on medical research literature. Nevertheless, patients often request additional applications in the same or other joints when seeing the excellent results of this treatment, which does not have any contraindications.
Does the treatment hurt?
R: During the procedure, the pain is similar to applying an injection in the buttocks. It does not require anesthesia and is performed in a Minor Operating Room. Thereafter, it can generate an inflammatory reaction accompanied by pain that usually lasts 3 to 7 days after the application. Our treatment is accompanied by therapies and procedures that help to control this inflammatory process, such as the Hyperbaric Chamber, therapies to reduce inflammation, IVs, cryotherapy, and lasers.
How long does the treatment last for?
R: Between 5 to 7 days.
